This program prepares you to manage daily office operations and assist healthcare providers in delivering excellent care.
Certificates & Degrees Offered
- Medical Office Administration (AAS Degree) – This degree provides the comprehensive skills needed for managerial roles in healthcare offices, including courses in medical office procedures, healthcare law, medical billing and coding, and patient care management.
- Medical Office Assistant (Certificate) – This certificate prepares students for entry-level roles in medical offices, with a focus on administrative support, medical software applications, patient communication, and office organization.
- Medical Scribe (Certificate) – This certificate focuses on training students to assist healthcare providers by accurately documenting patient information during medical exams, ensuring effective communication between healthcare teams and patients.
- Medical Billing & Coding (Certificate) – This certificate is not available at this time but is currently under development. Please check back for updates on its availability.

This is where business and healthcare meet to prepare students for entry-level roles in medical offices, clinics, and hospitals. The Medical Office program trains you to perform essential office functions and equips you with the specific skills needed for the medical office environment. Administrative medical assistants play a vital role in medical offices, and their responsibilities vary depending on the size and function of the office. These duties may include scheduling appointments, entering patient information into practice software, managing patient check-in and check-out, answering phone calls, filing and retrieving records, maintaining electronic records, composing correspondence, processing insurance claims, and performing daily financial practices. Full-time students can complete the certificate in one year and the degree in two years. Part-time options are available.
Upon successful completion, students will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Keyboard with speed and accuracy
- File correctly using alphabetic, numeric, geographic, and subject filing systems
- Apply rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling in written and oral communications
- Prepare documents using advanced features in word processing software
- Format basic business letters, memos, reports, tables, and newsletters to office standards
- Solve basic business math problems
- Operate a 10-key electronic calculator by touch
- Analyze and calculate data using spreadsheet software
- Demonstrate the ability to relate effectively with others in the classroom
- Demonstrate human relations skills and professional behavior necessary for successful job performance
- Analyze and organize business transactions applying bookkeeping theory and systems
- Demonstrate the ability to apply acquired skills in the workplace
- Compose business letters, memos, resumes, and letters of application
- Obtain a first aid and CPR certificate
- Use medical terms correctly
- Demonstrate an understanding of human biology
- Transcribe medical documents from recorded dictation
- Enter patient record information using electronic software
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
- Possess a basic understanding of medical office procedures using medical charts and
